President of Conference visits Rosehill

On Friday 15th March the President of the Methodist Conference Revíd Mark Wakelin began his visit to the Manchester and Stockport District by calling in at Rosehill Methodist Primary School to be the special guest at a VIP Tea.

Accompanied by Revíd Keith Davies (the Chair of District, 2nd left) Rev'd Wakelin was greeted by Mrs Chris Redman (Acting Head Teacher, left), Revíd Julie Coates (School Chaplain, right) and the School Mayor who was dressed in her robes of office. He was able to tour the school and meet some of the staff including Glen Reid, who is employed by the Methodist Church for one year on a One Programme Participant Project based at Rosehill.

During their time at Rosehill each pupil is given the chance to take part in a wide range of different experiences including being a guest at a tea party with some special visitors. They eat cucumber sandwiches (with the crusts cut off), enjoy a cake and a cup of tea in a delicate cup and saucer. Volunteers from older year groups help to serve and bring round the bowl of sugar cubes and the jug of milk.

During the tea party the President enjoyed chatting with the pupils, listening to their jokes and discussing the outfits they were wearing (chosen specially for Red Nose Day). He was impressed with the confidence and the politeness of the children.

Afterwards he met some of the volunteers from the Methodist Church who lead clubs, listen to readers, write to pen-pals or serve as governors at the school.
